Maurie Backman

Maurie Backman started her career in finance, working for a company that traded distressed debt. She later branched out into financial writing and has since covered topics ranging from Social Security to Medicare to investing to real estate. She also writes about economic news and retail.

Maurie’s path to financial writing was a winding one. She spent several years in marketing and even had a brief stint designing electronic toys.

Her favorite thing about personal finance writing is empowering others to make smart choices with their money, and to get educated on financial topics they may not have learned about previously.
